| On Saturday 18th March the first copies of Barli Development Institute for Rural Women's literacy curriculum "Aao Padhna Likhna Seekhien aur Seekhayein" roughly translated to English "Lets Us learn to Teach Literacy" arrived from th publishers. This curriculum is the result of 23 years experience of teaching young rural and tribal village women who had not had the opportunity of any schooling or dropped out of school at an early stage. These young women come to the Institute for a period of 6 months, where the are taught literacy as part of vocational course that they are enrolled in. At the end of the 6 month training the sit an examination conducted by National Institute of Open Schooling. In the November exam the pass rate was 93%. This the 3rd book that Barli has published the health curriculum was published in 2005 and is available in Hindi Marathi and English. The cutting and tailoring Practical and theory was published in Hindi in 2007. This Literacy book is published by Macmillan Publishers India Ltd, with the financial contribution from Two Wings Foundation, Linz Austria. |
